International Day for Disaster Reduction, held on October 13th each year, promotes a global culture of disaster reduction, including disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness. International Day for Disaster Reduction is an opportunity to acknowledge the substantial progress being made toward reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries.
