Information Management

Within CADRIM the primary objective of Information Management is risk mitigation through capacity building and data analysis for evidence-based decision making in National Societies and the communities they serve.

What is Information Management?

In the IFRC, information management is the collection, management, analysis, and dissemination of data and information to support decision-making.

What is the role of an Information Management (IM) Specialist?

IM specialist coordinate the design and implementation of data collection and management systems in both operations and programmatic streams of work.

As an Information & Knowledge Management Hub, CADRIM support National Societies through:

  • The development of data collection systems.

  • Support in implementing data collection technologies used globally in emergencies.

  • Technical training and implementation of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices process.

  • Data Analysis & Visualization

Below are some of the projects that CADRIM has played a significant role in as Information Managers, leading the design and implementation of data collection and analysis activities particularly where the implementation of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) Surveys and Needs Analysis are required.

Enhancing Climate Resilience in CARIFORUM Countries - conduct of knowledge, attitude and practices surveys related to climate variability and change and development of awareness strategies.

Overview:

This project was developed responding to the need to address resilience-building to climate-related events in the region. The general objective of the EU-GCCA+ is to support the climate compatible development of the CARIFORUM countries to combat the negative impacts of climate change, while simultaneously exploring the opportunities presented. Even though elements of the project’s awareness activities will benefit all sixteen (16) CARIFORUM countries, the prioritization of the 5 selected countries for the overall implementation of the project was decided based on several relevant criteria to consider during the implementation, like the absence of any surveys conducted in the past decade, current level of related investments and the overall conditions for the exercise.

Information Management objectives:

Capacity building through training in each participating country in:

  • Technical trainings on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices process

  • Qualitative and Quantitative data collection methodologies

  • Mobile Data Collection Technologies

  • Interview techniques

  • Data Analysis & Visualization

Implementation of Survey at a national scale in each of the 5 participating countries through a secure data collection system.

Resilient Islands Project

Overview:

Resilient Islands is a four-year initiative to protect islands against the impacts of climate change by promoting the use of coastal habitats to reduce risks, and by helping governments, partners and communities implement sustainable development plans that prioritize nature. The Nature Conservancy and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) are working with communities and agencies to design innovative tools, train leaders, and implement demonstration projects within vulnerable coastal communities in the Dominican Republic, Grenada, and Jamaica.  This project is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) supports this initiative based on a decision adopted by the German Bundestag.
