Community Disaster Response Teams (CDRT)
 Facilitator Training
Hosted on April 15 - 19, 2024

The Community Disaster Response Teams Facilitator Training is a 5-day initiative designed to prepare facilitators to teach community members the basic skills that are important to know in an emergency when responder agencies are delayed in aiding. With training and practice and by working as a team, members of communities will be able to do the greatest good for the greatest number of victims after a disaster, while protecting themselves from becoming a victim.

This training is made possible by the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Capacity Building Initiative Project.

Learning Objectives:

  • Increase the awareness and understanding of disaster risk reduction terms in communities.

  • Increase the knowledge of disaster risks within communities and to provide them with the experience to identify these risks.

  • Empower trained community volunteers to better protect themselves, their families, and neighbours against the negative impacts of disasters.

  • Provide community volunteers with the knowledge needed to develop and maintain a community response team.

  • Provide community volunteers with the skills needed to work as a team to support response agencies before, during and after an emergency.

Our Expectations for Trained Participants

  • Collaborate closely with their National Society to formulate a detailed community engagement training plan. This plan should outline the training's purpose, identify potential communities, specify the training schedule, and allocate a budget that covers necessary materials and additional staff support.

  • Implement Community-Based Disaster Response Team (CDRT) training in a minimum of two communities during the year 2024.

  • Provide constructive post-training feedback on the materials used during sessions with communities. Share insights and recommendations for improving these materials with IFRC CADRIM staff.

  • Leverage field training experience to suggest additional topics for training that would be valuable or requested by community members.

  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing by communicating success stories and training challenges. This will help capture essential lessons learned for future training endeavors.

Course Assessments

Participants were evaluated using three (3) assessment activities.

(worth 20% out of the total score of 100%)

Encompassed questions of various CDRT topics aimed at evaluating participants knowledge and progression from the training's onset to its conclusion.

Teach Back Session

(worth 50% out of the total score of 100%)

Provided an opportunity for participants to apply acquired knowledge by facilitating a session on designated key topics. Although conducted in groups, individual assessments were carried out.

Simulation Drill

(worth 30% out of the total score of 100%)
