Community Disaster Response Teams (CDRT) Facilitator Refresher Training

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
November 24 - 28, 2026

About this

Event

The CDRT Facilitator Refresher Training is a five-day practical programme for National Society staff and volunteers who are existing CDRT facilitators or have experience facilitating or supporting community-based disaster preparedness and response training. Participants will refresh key CDRT knowledge, strengthen their facilitation skills and apply their learning through teach-back sessions, peer feedback and an emergency response simulation.

The training is best suited to those actively involved in disaster management, community engagement, training or volunteer management who are available to participate fully in all five days. It is not intended for senior leadership positions such as Presidents, Director Generals or Board Members.

Why Attend

This training provides participants with an opportunity to update their CDRT knowledge, practice delivering sessions and receive practical feedback from facilitators and peers. They will leave better prepared to facilitate or support quality CDRT training within their National Society and strengthen disaster preparedness and response at the community level.

Training Structure

Day 1 - Building a Common Foundation

Opening, participant expectations, review of the pre-training survey, facilitator roles, adult learning principles and targeted refreshers on priority CDRT topics.

Expected outcome: Participants have a common understanding of the training approach, recognise their priority learning gaps and can describe the main principles that guide inclusive, practical CDRT facilitation.

Day 2 - Strengthening Technical Knowledge and Preparing to Facilitate

Continued priority refresher sessions, a group knowledge check, assignment of teach-back topics and guided preparation of session plans and activities.

Expected outcome: Participants show improved understanding of priority topics and complete a practical teach-back plan with clear objectives, key messages, learning activities and assigned group roles.

Day 3 - Facilitation Practice and Feedback

Final group preparation followed by participant-led teach-back sessions, facilitator assessment, peer feedback and short reflection periods.

Expected outcome: Participants demonstrate their technical knowledge and facilitation skills in practice, receive structured feedback and identify specific actions to improve their next delivery.

Day 4 - Consolidating Facilitation Skills and Planning the Simulation

Continuation of teach-back sessions, participant-led knowledge recaps, feedback and group preparation for the emergency response simulation.

Expected outcome: Participants demonstrate improved facilitation based on feedback and produce a simulation plan with a clear scenario, roles, safety considerations, materials and assessment points.

Day 5 - Applying Learning Through Simulation

Participant-led emergency response simulation, structured debrief, final reflection, assessment review and next steps for applying the learning.

Expected outcome: Participants demonstrate practical application of CDRT learning, complete a structured reflection on their performance and leave with clear next steps for facilitation or further development.

This survey will help the training team understand participants’ current knowledge, facilitation experience and areas where additional support may be needed. The results will be used to identify priority refresher topics, tailor the training content and determine whether any pre-training preparation is required. It is not a pass or fail assessment, so participants are encouraged to respond honestly based on their current understanding and experience.
